Arizona-Based Cardiology Practice Recognizes Significant Cost Savings with Updox

Improved Efficiencies and Patient Care Experience Delivered Through Universal Practice Communications Solution

Dublin, Ohio, Aug. 28, 2014 – Prescott Cardiology, a premier cardiology practice based in Prescott, Ariz., recently began using Updox, the industry leader for physician connectivity and CRM solutions for health care, to more efficiently communicate with other providers. Prescott management wanted a practice communications solution that included electronic faxing to eliminate paper and provided enhanced services to track faxes, give confirmations and had complete integration with their Greenway PrimeSUITE electronic health record (EHR).

With the integrated fax component of Updox’s solution, Prescott Cardiology consolidated all incoming and outgoing faxes into one universal inbox. Faxes are transmitted electronically, saving the practice the costs of phone lines, hardware, paper and toner costs. Faxes can be accessed anywhere via a web connection, easily routed for review and signature, auto-sorted from multiple fax lines and edited and imported directly to the patient chart. When a document such as a medication refill order is faxed to the practice, it can be viewed, completed and signed, sent to the pharmacy and filed in the patient’s EHR chart – all at the same time.

Through its use of Updox, Prescott Cardiology consumes 75 percent less paper each month and has seen similar reductions in toner costs. Prescott previously hired temporary staff to assist with scanning, a process that could take 2-3 weeks to complete. Thanks to Updox, scanned items are available almost immediately, eliminating the need to hire temporary staff and reducing the practice’s labor costs for Medical Records by 90 percent.

“What we get through Updox has been amazing. We have easy tracking and better audit trails of how documents are sent and received. We’re able to tell where and when a fax was sent, along with how many pages and how many attempts were made before it was received. We’re a detail-oriented practice and now the detail we have is even more refined,” says Eric Costanios, manager, Medical Records, and HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer.

Updox offered Prescott Cardiology an efficient, easy-to-start solution. “Once we settled on Updox, it was a completely smooth, user-friendly process,” says Costanios. “We sat down with staff and let them practice themselves. It was actually a fun tool to use and you can watch items getting faxed out or moved to the chart right from your desktop. Staff found it very empowering to learn and each day we find new ways to use the solution to benefit our practice.”

“Integrated faxing is one component of service that Updox provides, along with patient portal, Direct secure messaging and customer relationship management (CRM) for health care,” says Michael Morgan, chief executive officer, Updox. “Updox solutions work together to coordinate all of a practice’s communications across the full health care ecosystem, including patients, hospitals, affiliates and other providers. Our focus is helping practices work more efficiently and economically so that they can spend more time on patient care and less time on costly administrative functions.”

Hands-on demonstrations of Updox solutions, including Integrated Fax, will be available for Greenway customers at Engage14, Greenway’s annual customer conference, held Sept. 4-7 at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center in Dallas, Texas.

In addition to Greenway PrimeSUITE, Updox is integrated with more than 45 EHR vendors, representing 140,000 physicians, through the Updox Direct Network (UDN), the largest built on Direct messaging. The UDN serves a full spectrum of health care, including hospitals, ambulatory, acute care, specialty practices, medical labs, dental practices and small and mid-sized practices, to assist with the transfer of clinical and administrative data.
