May is dedicated to celebrating the vast contributions of America’s nurses,

and as we wrap up National Nurses Week, it’s important to recognize these Frontline Warriors and consider how we can support them not only this month – but all throughout the year.

The U.S. has come a long way since the onset of the pandemic. However, while 2021 holds promise of relief for those on the frontlines, burnout among nurses continues to be a significant issue. In fact, the number of U.S. nurses reporting having burnout symptoms rose to 62% by the end of last year.

As nurses continue to feel the burden of crowded hospitals and busy workflows, they need support more than ever before. Keep reading for ways to show support and appreciation for the nurses in your life.

Ask ‘How Are You Doing?’

Before, during, and post-COVID, nurses continue to be at the heart of healthcare as they are often spending the most time at patients’ bedsides. Providing constant care can lead to burnout, and studies show that levels of burnout among nurses continue to increase. One simple step is to check in with nurses to make sure they are feeling okay. Take a few moments to reach out to your nursing staff this month and simply ask, “how are you doing?” and be sure to listen to what they have to say.

Reduce Administrative Burden with a Paperless Practice

In order to help combat burnout, it’s vital that providers get to the root of frustrations. Oftentimes this includes inefficient workflows brought on by outdated processes. For instance, on average, healthcare staff are spending upwards of 55 hours on manual faxing each month. Additional time is also spent manually inputting patient records into the EHR. While healthcare technology on its own can’t solve burnout, leveraging paperless solutions like Electronic Fax and Forms can eliminate the need for manual data entry, reduce errors and improve communications which, in turn, can lessen administrative headaches and establish more efficient, unified processes – all things that can help ease burnout.

Say ‘Thank You’ For Providing Exceptional Care

As we are still in a pandemic, you may not be able to have the celebration you want to provide for your nurses. But one tried and true method never fails to show someone how much they are appreciated. Whether through a card, a gift or even a thoughtful pause in the hall as you pass a nurse headed to see their next patient, let’s say “thank you” to nurses for all of their hard work and dedication to providing exceptional care.

Here at Updox, we want to show our appreciation for nurses not only this month but year-round. Thank you, nurses, for all you do!
