We’ve created this infographic using research from a proprietary 2021 survey of over 2,000 American adults, with some additional support from Redpoint Global’s 2020 survey of over 1,000 US healthcare consumers. Combined, these sources help us paint an accurate picture of the current virtual care landscape.
Our goal in using this data was to determine what technology trends and statistics actually matter, both for patients and providers. The results should be used by physicians to help guide technology investments and transformation efforts when implementing a virtual care solution.
Important Virtual Healthcare Technology Trends & Statistics
Here’s what we learned:
- Reminders matter! 65% of respondents said that reminders are the single most important tech solution for providers to offer their patients. Patients want the extra help remembering their appointments, while providers want to mitigate the lost revenue and other disruptions that come from patient no-shows which cost the US healthcare industry an estimated $1.5 billion per year.
- Patients want a portal. The majority of patients called for doctors to provide a patient portal. Over half of respondents also named online bill pay and online appointment scheduling as important, both of which are key functions of a patient portal.
- Personalize care. Three out of four respondents said they wanted more personalized care. A comprehensive communications platform helps to provide that, making it far easier to connect with patients and offer a more engaging healthcare experience.
- Communication is key. HIPAA-compliant texting, secure online chat, video meetings, and other tech-driven solutions make doctor/patient communications more convenient something most Americans name as the most important part of creating a good patient experience. Half the patients surveyed expect direct access to a healthcare provider for pressing questions or concerns, and leveraging texting and other quick communications options makes that possible.
